Why
we chose insect proteins
Factory farming consumes huge resources, and
thus harms the environment. In addition, there is an excessive use of
antibiotics, which should keep healthy animals in a confined area.
And these are the two points where our
insect-based grain-free dog food comes in. Compared to cattle breeding, the
breeding of the black soldier fly which we use a source of protein, uses only
one-tenth of the energy.
In addition, neither the larvae nor the adult
flies become ill. This allows us to dispense with using antibiotics for
breeding.
In addition, the insect proteins in our dog food
have virtually no allergic potential. Bellfor Farm-Feast thus relieves the
environment and provides your dog with a healthy and tasty meal.
What
are the benefits for the dog when being fed with the insect proteins used in
Bellfor?
The quality of the used proteins is expressed by
a complete Amino acid profile. The more amino acids and the higher their
content per kilogram, the better the quality of the used proteins. Amino acids
are constituents of proteins. Plants, for example, contain
only few amino acids. Some meats contain not all amino acids.
The proteins of the larvae of the black soldier
fly, which we use for our Bellfor, have a complete amino acid profile with a
high concentration.
Insects had to prevail over millions of years to
all environmental influences, and so created a complete bio-system.
Since the larvae of the black soldier fly can
convert the eaten and ingested plant protein into animal protein, the protein
of the larva is especially high quality. Dogs can digest animal protein better
and more easily than vegetable protein.
Dogs are omnivores and therefore daily
high-quality meat are needed to meet their protein needs. A short digestive
tract leaves little time for the dog to process nutrients. For this reason,
dogs need a high-quality source of protein. Because the higher quality the
amino structure of the protein, the lower the risk that dogs get allergic
problems or problems in the gastrointestinal tract.
The larvae are bred and processed in the same
plant. As the result, the larva is processed in less than 5 minutes to protein.
This has an enormous impact on the quality of the protein, because the BAI (biogenic
amines index) is significantly below the value 1.
The BAI is an index which index the freshness of
meat. The fresher the meat, the lower this number
(https://www.petfoodindustry.com/articles/521-analyzing-amines).
Feeding Bellfor Naturally Good-Feast (cold
pressed & grain-free) or Bellfor Farm Feast (extruded & grain-free)
almost excludes any potential for allergies. Our new Bellfor varieties can help
dogs with symptoms such as itching, lick granuloma or diarrhoea.
In addition, dogs fed with Bellfor Naturally
Good-Feast or Bellfor Farm Fest have a shiny, soft coat and a solid bowel
movement.
Dogs
like eating it and with feeding these two Bellfor grain-free food varieties,
you contribute to sustainability and thus protect our environment.
